Derek goes the extra mile in everything he does. He is a driven individual who pursues ambitions with unwavering focus and intensity—a byproduct of both his strong, single-parent upbringing and his eight years in the Marine Corps. As his client, this energy and determination will serve you well. Derek is a passionate advocate who will stop at nothing to help others. Even as circumstances shift, Derek continues to drive progress toward his clients’ long-term goals without losing momentum. He carries a calm, confident demeanor that helps others feel at ease in high-pressure situations.
Perhaps one of the greatest benefits of working with Derek is his approachability. While Derek sets high personal standards, he remains a humble partner. He genuinely wants to help others make the best financial decisions. This quiet confidence coupled with his straightforward approach is exactly what makes his clients say things like, “Wow. Thanks, Derek. I feel much better after talking to you.”
His confidence is not without merit. In just 47 weeks, Derek was able to master four years of college-level Russian at the Defense Language Institute. Thus, one can be confident his 29-plus years of experience in the financial industry (which translates to approximately 1,528 weeks, in case you were wondering) will bode well for those seeking his financial advice.
Industry Experience
Now a completely independent advisor, Derek has experience in every channel of the investment management and financial planning industry. He started his financial career in 1995 as a stockbroker in a discount brokerage firm. In this role, he gained valuable knowledge about the markets, the intricacies of different industries, and economics in general. This early career pitching stocks set a spark in Derek. Eager to build his talents and make a difference for clients, he transitioned to a bank investment advisory platform in 1997. Here, he successfully built his business as an advisor for more than 15 years before moving to a wirehouse for another 12 years. In 2025, he became completely independent, allowing him the freedom to provide unbiased, conflict-free advice and recommendations based solely on what is best for his clients. In short, he can be the true fiduciary he has always strived to be.
Areas of Focus
Growing up in a family of entrepreneurs and running his own practice, Derek understands the empowering experience and challenges of owning a business. He appreciates the drive for independence and the desire to build a legacy for one’s family. While many of his clients are business owners themselves, Derek’s expertise also extends to multigenerational families and households who share similar aspirations. In general, his clients are successful people who want help mitigating risk and answering the question, “What am I missing?” Derek examines the full scope of their financial picture and provides honest, detailed advice that helps them identify the most efficient path to their goals.
